Innovative website effectively expresses employer brand

Iconic retailer Bloomingdale’s competes for world-class talent for both its executive operations and retail stores. The company needed a recruiting site that effectively communicated its employer brand: creative, entrepreneurial, passionate and committed to making a difference.

Challenge

In the competitive market for hourly talent, Bloomingdale’s needed an edge in recruiting sales associates to staff their legendary stores and support its outlet business. But they also needed a way to attract top talent for a multitude of corporate operations. They were challenged with quickly portraying the company’s employer brand while developing meaningful connections with prospects. Therefore, needing to efficiently and quickly funnel candidates to jobs, making it easy for them to apply — even on mobile devices, which make up the majority of online job search traffic. Lastly, Bloomingdale’s wanted to meet retail candidates locally, showing them jobs closest to their location.

Strategy

Bloomingdale’s turned to Sanger & Eby to design and develop a new, fully-responsive careers site to give them a competitive edge in recruiting talent across the full spectrum of needs. Authentic photography and extensive video added throughout the site show what it’s like to be a part of the Bloomingdale’s team. The careers site highlights company culture, employee perks and provides details about what each job entails.

The Taleo job search and application are branded and optimized for mobile, providing a streamlined user experience in an applicant tracking system that’s normally challenging for candidates to navigate on mobile devices.

Our integrated geolocation feature delivers the nearest job listings to the candidate upon initial home page load without ever needing to search. This means retail associates are directed immediately and effortlessly to nearby opportunities — the ones they’re most likely to apply for.

An innovative, flexible career search enables potential hires to search by distance, schedule, shift or keyword. Candidates can save jobs to a customized list for future exploration, and with a job-alerts subscription, they can sign up for notifications as jobs become available.

Job description pages are enhanced with embedded social-sharing tools make it easier to email and share job posts through social media helping boost Bloomingdale’s reach. At-a-glance job listings display the location, category, schedule and requisition ID numbers.
