A custom website with auction and donation management boosts companywide participation, optimizes administration and helps Macy’s deliver on a major giving objective.

Macy’s believes in giving back, it is a core value rooted deep within the company. Their annual giving campaign is an ambitious, large-scale effort run by a cross-functional team that coordinates efforts across the company. Macy's needed a way to manage the campaign and track results all while inspiring participation across the company.

Strategy

Sanger & Eby designed and developed a sophisticated online donation system that integrates with Macy's employee authentication system, enabling employees to easily and securely pledge online and even designate their donations to a charity of their choice. The site uses FrontStream (formerly Truist), a micropayments provider, to distribute funds and minimize required effort by Macy's payroll team.

Macy’s needed to track progress against goals on an overall company basis, by department and at the individual employee level. We created a robust behind-the-scenes reporting tool that updates in real-time with pledge numbers and goal percentages. The tool provides executives with the ability to track their group’s donations and benchmark against other groups – critical information that enables them to manage and motivate teams accordingly.

The online auction system enabled employees across the U.S. to bid on donated items, with all proceeds going to the giving campaign. We made an administrative backend that allowed auction mangers to upload item photos and descriptions as well as track payments and deliveries. We also developed the ability to manage separate auctions at regional, divisional and local levels to increase efficiency and decrease delivery costs.

To promote the campaign, Sanger & Eby has developed a campaign theme, logo and supporting marketing collateral each year, including flyers, posters, website assets, pledge forms and displays, driving high levels of awareness and helping Macy’s achieve its goals.

Results

The annual campaign, online auction and donation system have been instrumental in building awareness, facilitating participation and driving success for Macy’s campaigns.

The online system has dramatically reduced administrative overhead, provided executives with critical tools and data to motivate their teams and helped Macy’s meet and exceed its objectives, helping fund the organization’s important work in communities across the country.
